#96 -- Invasion of the Bunny Snatchers

Title - Invasion of the Bunny Snatchers
Director - Greg Ford & Terry Lennon
Released - 1992

Interesting Fact -- When released on the Space Jam 2-disc DVD, scenes with Yosemite Sam were cut for pacing, but you can still hear him at the end.

Reason for Placement --

Around the early to mid-'90s, Warner Bros. released a new set of Looney Tunes cartoons, all of which parodied famous horror films.  One of these was Invasion of the Bunny Snatchers (obviously, a parody of 1956's Invasion of the Body Snatchers).  Bugs goes about his daily routine with Elmer, Yosemite Sam, and Daffy, only to find that something is a little... odd, about his friends.  Could it have something to do with the strange-looking carrots that have shown up all over the place?

The set-up is great, with the animators recreating situations from A Wild Hare, Bugs Bunny Rides Again, and Rabbit Fire, and actually doing a pretty good job building suspense as Bugs tries to figure out what is going on.  The best scene is easily at the first climax, as Bugs lays in bed thinking about what happened, only to turn around and see his own clone, standing over him with an axe!  If that's not a significant change of pace, then I don't know what is.

  1. The bit with the fake Daffy always had me in stitches, especially when he's done with the creepy Syncro-Vox.
Also, i liked the part where Bugs, mid-run, stops to add, "Y'know, folks, dis is da scariest part of da picture," before resuming running. A very Tex Avery-esque gag.
